What I missed all those years ago was that, to the accounting team, all numbers are equal in the eyes of the finance gods.
Marketing’s transgression here is not that they chose new numbers, but that they had the hubris to think there was a hierarchy.
And also, possibly, for thinking that accountants would know what aesthetics means.
