Listen man, I was burned at the last performance review for missing my goals who where defined and scored by the process evaluation metrics. So, If it helps filling these metrics I am your man.
It must be one perfect process then if all you need to do is measure adherance to it *cough cough*

I think there does too. Let me see what I can do. I have a LOT of thoughs on this topic.
I was once told that processes are very good things. If (and this is the key word here) the situation fits within the terms of the process then you can disengage brain and follow process (or hand it to some underling etc). On the other hand, if the situation does not fit within the process then that is a call to stop and think about it.
Unfortunately most companies have a one process fits all mentality.
